FAQ

Can you make outfits for any Indian ceremony?

Yes, we are used to making traditional and modern Indian clothing for almost any Indian festivity or ceremony you can think of. Our work has included outfits for Tamil and Pakistani weddings, custom Lehengas for Mehndi's, weddings and parties, and costumes for Eid and Diwali celebrations. We can also create bespoke outfits for Indian destination weddings and parties abroad.

From traditional Bhangra dresses and Punjabi suits for religious events to Desi wedding and party outfits, we cover all types of Indian apparel and design.

How long does it take for a bespoke order?

We suggest a typical lead time of 4-6 weeks for creating a bespoke, made-to-measure Indian outfit. The longest part of the process is fabric selection and sourcing. We may be able to complete your order more quickly, but depending on the complexity, it can take a little longer.

Do I have to pay extra for alterations on a bespoke garment?

One round of minor alterations will be included in your quoted price. If the customer supplies their own measurements, additional alterations will be quoted and charged separately.

What is the process for a bespoke order?

I work with the customer however they feel most comfortable and provide a tailored, friendly service to match their needs. We start by sharing ideas and mood boards to establish what the finished product/s will be.

Once finalised, rough computerised images of the garment or outfit will be supplied. This will include all specifications on fabrics, techniques, embellishments etc. I commission my tailor to select fabrics for the brief and present which materials may be most suitable. The customer can then select their preferred choice from the options supplied. For sizing, customers can choose from a made-to-measure option or standard sizing. If you are happy to take your measurements, a comprehensive guide will be sent. Once completed, the magic can begin!

Do you do matching family Indian fashion design and twinning clothing?

One of the reasons Sarees by Marisha was set up was due to the lack of matchy-matchy, twinning outfits available in the Indian fashion and clothing space. We love to create matching mother and daughter, father and son, brother and sister and sibling Indian clothing.

What fabrics do you use in your Indian fashion clothing?

We use a wide variety of fabrics, accessories, trims, borders and brocades in our Indian garments.

The following list is not exhaustive but will give you an idea of the fabrics and materials we use to construct our Indian clothing for children.

Silk, satin, georgette, chiffon, crepe, organza, taffeta, rayon, silks satin, mal mal, crepe silk, crinkled cotton, linen, raw silk, faux silk, faux georgette, velvet.

Indian heritage is significant in the production of our ready-to-wear Indian clothing and bespoke garments. We incorporate many traditional Indian techniques into our pieces, including safe abhla mirror work embroidery, gota patti, crochet, lacework, patola, foil print, and Zari thread work.

What type of garments do you make?

We have a wide selection of ready-to-wear designer kids' clothing inspired by traditional Indian culture and fashion. Some of our children's outfits have a more conventional Indian influence, but others have a modern and contemporary take on ethnic kids wear.

We can cater for all requests, including lehenga, dhoti trousers, palazzo pants, traditional sarees, modern sarees, wedding sarees, embellished sarees, kurta, choli, sharara, salwar kameez, angarkha, patialas and more. This list is not exhaustive, so if there is something you are looking for, please do get in touch using the contact form

Can I have a fitting in person?

I am based in Birmingham, so I am happy to offer in-person consultations to customers who can reach me easily. Otherwise, appointments can be carried out very efficiently over Zoom or other video call software.

How do I take my measurements?

After we have discussed your initial ideas and requirements, I will send you a full brief for taking your own measurements. If you are happy to travel, I am delighted to assist with measurements in person.

Can I send you a Pinterest board of ideas?

Many customers send me Pinterest boards or images they find on Instagram or other social media platforms. I am happy to work however best suits you, but most people send me a collection of images as a mood board or montage so that I can get a feel for the types of looks they are after.
