Mum & Mini-Me Twinning Outfits

Manisha approached me for a mother and daughter twinning outfit for a close family wedding. Her 2-year-old daughter is very particular about her clothes and is reluctant to dress up. Fabrics and textures can be a real problem; if they're scratchy, they are a no-go. Mum and I worked together to find the perfect material. We selected a beautiful, lightweight pure organza with delicate thread work and a simple but elegant soft-touch skirt. Manisha adored the combination and decided to have a matching mummy one made for herself!

Easy-To-Drape, Ready-Made Sarees For Wriggly Children!

Reena wanted a little girl's saree but was concerned about how difficult it would be to drape on a restless 5-year-old that struggles to sit still. This bespoke saree was commissioned during lockdown, so a face-to-face consultation was impossible. We had a meeting over Zoom, and I could demonstrate how easy my ready-to-wear little girls' sarees are to drape. Reena was so relieved; she was left asking if they came in an adult size too!

We chose a simple soft plain georgette for a lovely flow to the saree with a complementing wide border. We added a plain matching saree blouse that could be coordinated with other items in her daughter's ethnic wardrobe. I added a drawstring open back to the saree blouse as this adds detail and optimises the fit for children.

Travel Proof Destination Wedding Outfits

Sital struggled to find an off-the-shelf Indian destination wedding outfit for her little boy. She wanted something lightweight and easy-to-wear but also something that would flat pack in a suitcase and travel well. We worked together on the concept and explored many fabric options. We opted for a Kurta pyjama set in neutral white so that it could be coordinated with several different waistcoats. We chose a selection of fabrics for three waistcoats to provide various looks but also ensured they would work with a western trouser style. This meant that the waistcoats would get lots of wear and could be mixed and matched with other garments. Sital was so thrilled with the bespoke Indian clothes that she returned and ordered some easy-to-wear ethnic fashion outfits for her 6-year-old daughter. We created a soft rayon desi-inspired jumpsuit in a traditional bandhani-inspired print. Her daughter loved that it was light and comfortable and even wore it as an everyday all-in-one.
